The Whisperer
Now The Last Judgment. The Guinness is undrinkable and the refunds unheard of. And the staff really don't seem to know what's going on. Avoid (even if the new decor is lovely. As always, just a great pub. High ceiling with lots of decorations attributable to it's name. Staff were pleasant as usual and the tables were all clean. Popular spot for tourists and often has private functions on over the weekend. Note the two stone tables near the steps to the toilets (which is something else- at least for the men). And to finish it off, the Guinness was excellent

This is a really beautiful pub and, while we were there, it was playing really decent house music. Unfortunately for us the kitchen had closed at 8:30 PM, so we couldn't eat. The day before, google showed it being open on a Sunday, as did Open Table. We went, only to discover the opposite was true. In any case, we returned on a quiet Monday, and could only assume that the food would be good, since the atmosphere was excellent, including the lighting, and the wine selection was very good. We both had some great wine, and the price was acceptable! Will return and recommend, for sure.

One of the best Wetherspoons.A large Edwardian ornate building.Very crowded at lunchtime,best avoided until after 2 pm.Not in a residential area,so not sure about weekends.Typical Wetherspoons fare. To close.Absolute tragedy. I hear the new owners are not adopting the Wetherspoon's philosophy.I give it 6 months.

Update. Massively disappointing that this flagship Spoons has now closed and been sold from 18/3/23. Rumour has it that The Penderels Oak Spoons just round the corner is now to remain open instead. Fingers crossed. Doesn't bode well that the new owners Berkeley Inns can't even spell Knights Templar properly on the rather sarcastic sign on the door. This is a Spoons that will be sadly missed. Original review below. Always an impressive restoration. Worth seeing just for that. Usual Spoons value, particularly in London. Only criticism is tables aren't cleared as quickly as they should be when its busy, particularly when people are coming and going with regularity. Ends up being a little messsy. Still recommended.
