We have had a really positive experience with John Roan, my daughter has been there since Y7 and the school has gone from strength to strength. The teaching staff are now very committed and the quality of teaching has really improved. My daughter has also had lots of opportunities such as learning musical instruments, singing lessons, debate mate, DofE, varied sporting activities as well as school plays etc. Would recommend any parent to check it out.

John Roan has bounced back. We attended a year 11 in-person parents evening last night, which reinforced a strong sense of quality and community the senior leadership has installed over recent years... Both my kids (yr 11 + yr 9) are doing really well, educationally speaking and are clearly motivated and focussed. They've both benefited from a range of out-of-school activities, strong local friendships. I fully expect them both to come through with great grades, good guidance and with a range of opportunities opened up to them by the school.

My son is very happy here and I am happy he is at The John Roan. The teacher's are enthusiastic and very supportive, there are lots of clubs and healthy competition, in addition to structured homework. Go to the schools open days to see the students and meet the teachers

Our eldest child joined the school in 2015 and was there for y7-11. There was a challenging period of instability in 2016-2017 but since then things have improved immensely and the wonderful characteristics of The John Roan School known by many in this area have shone through. We chose the school again for another of our children in 2019 since we were confident that things were moving in a positive direction and we have not been disappointed. The staff are energetic, enthusiastic and committed to providing an excellent holistic education to the students, the leadership is strong and ambitious, the community is so inclusive and diverse, and the pastoral support is excellent and very tailored to each child's needs. The JRSA (parents association) is really active and the senior leadership are really keen to build strong links with home and family, so they are very welcoming of parent involvement. This is a strong secondary school rooted in the community and serving local families - definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a secondary school for your child.

Wow! What a great first term my daughter has had at John Roan. The school staff have been exceptional - we’ve been really impressed with the communication from all teachers and have been made to feel really welcome and involved. My daughter has settled in so well, has made great friends and has a new found love of subjects that she hadn’t enjoyed as much at primary school. The school has had some bad press in the past but I’m glad we listened to all the reports from people who are at the school now or have children that have left sixth form recently and gone into great things! Headteacher, Deputy/Vice principals and Head of Year are all brilliant. Well done John Roan.
