Hi There, I want to lodge a complaint in regards to Roehampton Huntercombe Mental Health hospital. My wife has been in their care since she was admitted 4th of November 2021. My experience as her carer in regards to dealing with the hospital has been really disappointing. There are few issues in regards to arranging leave, getting information and following due process. Since she was admitted to the Huntercombe Mental hospital I have felt that the hospital has not informed me enough to see what her care plan will be during her stay. There did not give her her the full medication she was on during the first 5 days that she was admitted. She had a blood test to check her Lithium levels in Epsom General Hospital before her transfer to Huntercombe. This will inevitably make her unwell as she needs her full medication to remain well. It also seems that the hospital are incredibly short staff for a private hospital. No one seems to have any uniformity in regards to dealing with wife's care plan. I haven't been provided any uniformed information on what medication she has taken or not taken, ward round times, and plan for leave. I have also been denied access to the ward round virtually which undermines my rights. I put a request through today and it has not been honoured.

Terrible hospital. This hospital treat patients and their family really badly. Many of the nursing staff are very rude and in my view seen to not appreciate how to best deal with mentally ill patients. They for example did not seem to appreciate that they need to support a patient with the cleaning of their room when the patient is clearly too unwell to do it themselves without any support. I managed to see my relatives room by luck a few weeks into her stay at this hospital and it was in real mess and they seem to not appreciate that if a patient is very unwell they need support with cleaning and tidying up; I was happy to support and guide my relative with cleaning of her room but they would not allow that and the staff would also not support the patient themeselves unfortunately despite my relative being very unwell. Also nursing stag don’t like the families to visit a patient for more than an hour and try their best to restrict a family visiting a patient; This is unlike NHS hospitals who don’t mind relatives visiting for as much as they want (and not just one hour) as long as the visit is within visiting hours. Also they claim they have basketball court and gym but they never seem to let patient use these facilities. Certainly they never let my relative use it despite she being there for about 2 months and despite she being keen to use it. Also my relative was in the hospital for 2 months without her mental health improving at all despite her consultant claiming that most people entering their hospital improve within 4 weeks. During the time my relative was in the hospital about 90% of the patients remained the same and no one seemed to improve. My relative only got better when the nearest relative asked the consultant to please discharge our relative. 2 days after discharge my relative got admitted to a NHS run mental hospital and she got better within 2 weeks of admissions in this new facility as they seem to have more competent nursing staff and consultants and alternative medication was tried. Also Huntercombe hospital seem to not have a formal complaint process. Despite making several formal complaints to the manager of this hospital , we did not get any formal response back. My advice is if you have a relative in this hospital, please don’t leave them there, please try to move them to a NHS run facility. Also if you like to make a formal complaint about this hospital see if you can do it through NHS England or the local MP as complaining to the manager of this hospital seem to be ineffective.
