We stayed in the Douglas Fir in mid Aug 22 and had a lovely relaxing few days in the hollies forest lodges environment. The accommodation is absolutely 1st class and the local farm shop provides the most delicious local produce. The local area has a very interesting heritage and the reclaim world, which is stone throw away, is well worth a visit.

We stayed here for a long weekend with our young family (1 & 5 year olds) at the Noble Fir in March. Fantastic looking lodge and would recommend to anyone. Issues - Thermostat for heating turned off when you touched it. Irritating as you then had to set the thing up from scratch. Boiler is in one of the bedrooms and seeing as we dare not touch the thermostat, it was clicking on and off all night. Not a very peaceful night in that room! On booking, the company take an extra £200 for breakages - bit OTT when you pay top £'s to stay here in the first place. Charging for high chair hire and travel cots also seems a bit naff but it's the policy and you know in advance. Final point is, not sure if every stay gets this but the 'free' packet of Durex Pleasure Me pack in one of the bedroom drawers took some explaining to a 5 year old. If these were unintended then your cleaning isn't as good as you think (makes a bit of a mockery of the Covid policy) and if it was intentional then maybe highlight this before your guests arrive so we can avoid children opening the free sweets... Tip for visitors - if you intend to eat out, book local pubs in advance as we found the Friday night was fully booked nearly everywhere nearby.
