Just came home from a last minute meal from the gate. I asked for some take away boxes to take my food home which I accidentally forgot it as I was distracted with my son. I got home and called to see if it was available to be collected to be told that it had be thrown away even though the pub was still open. I spoke to members of staff on the phone who had said that different ‘operations’ happen between inside and outside which is why the food was thrown away due to the outdoor area being closed. In my opinion whether the area I was in was closed or not that food should of been saved until the restaurant had completely close. This food cost me over £50 and I also paid an additional £30 for drinks. When speaking with manager (who was very rude to myself and partner whilst ordering drinks this afternoon) and staff I was told nothing could be done about this, nor did the offer any other service to me. What an awful level of customer service that is. Shame, as I used to really enjoy dining at the gate and this has now put a negative view on my opinion.

Went on Sunday with 8 family members and in no way did this place dissappoint 🌟👌 Some had the Roast Lamb With all the trimmings, couple had the enchiladas,and 1 had the Salmon 👌 And we were all in agreement everything was cooked to perfection 👌🌟💥 Desserts were to die for (Definitely recommend the Lemon meringue pie with ice cream )😋🤤 The staff were prompt, polite and very attentive.👌🌟 Price wise a little more than your average Sunday lunch , But well worth a visit and very hard to beat 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thank you The Gate At Bornheath ❣️

I really wanted to love this place, the food was really good and a decent price too. The one gripe was the service, it certainly didn't come with a smile, it actually felt like we were hassling them when asking for a drink because the response never felt warming. No one checked on our food after it was brought out, we were wanting sauces but no one asked us about it so ended up without. When we were told they needed the table back, again the approach felt too serious and sudden, there was no friendliness about the service. It could have been a 3/5 but there was a lot to like about it and I'm hoping we caught the waiter/waitress on an off-day.

A lovely pub with great top notch food and good selection of beers etc. The owner needs to sort all of the dining tables. Sand and re stain and varnish, they are always sticky and not always clean because the finish has worn away. 4 for the pub, 0 for the tables. A good place should be proud of their tables.
