The unsubscribe process is a shambles and does not live up to the high standards usually held up by their journalism. I can easily subscribe to their weekly magazine without the need to chat with anybody. But to unsubscribe my time was unnecessarily wasted as I needed to chat with someone to cancel my subscription. However, in order to unscribe you don't just access your account and cancel the active subscription. Instead you have to click through a number of user interfaces that deliberately use counterintuitive user experience in order to keep you as a paying reader. To finally end the subscription you need to enter into a 12 minute chat. It takes 5 minutes for the customer service representative to find your account. Even though I said that I don't want offers, I was provided with a 50% discount offer. After 5 clicks, 4 explicit requests and a 12 minute wait I succeeded to end my subscription. Dear The Economist, I will at no point in time ever pay or subscribe for any of your publications.

While the quality of their magazine and journalism is top-notch, their customer service is about the worst you can get. Delivery problems were never rectified over the past couple of years, and complaints are closed without being dealt with. Their motto seems to be "take the money and run".
