This historic Victorian indoor riding arena was recently saved from demolition by a group dedicated to the heritage of Epsom. It has the most pleasing proportions and a palpable atmosphere that touched my soul. With Caroline Anns-Baldock and friends we were preparing the building for a visit by a group from Chantilly, France, on 5th June 2022. This was part of their town twinning arrangement with Epsom, as both Chantilly and Epsom are racing towns. The group included the Mayor of Epsom and his entourage.

The stables are well kept and the horses are cared for by a group of people mainly young women who are very knowledgeable about how to treat each individual horse. Whenever you question them, they always give answers based on the horses behaviours rather than what they think. For example: they sometimes tell you not to come too close, as the horse is not ready for mixing with others. They do not allow people to feed the horses. They sometimes allow you to stroke certain ones gently......
