Discovered this hidden gem whilst enroute to another eatery but decided to divert to here as we passed. Friendly enthusiastic staff, a well appointed decor, busy kitchen producing excellent specials. Lovely pub garden, especially at lunch when still relatively quiet. We had the Smoked Salmon wrapped around asparagus and topped with a poached egg in a generous helping of bearnise sauce...or was it hollandaise..delicious eitherway. Would return here again next time Im in this part of the countryside.

Old pub atmosphere with excellent service from polite and happy staff. The belly of pork and steak and ale pie were lovely.

It was okay, but probably wouldn't go back. The venue itself is really nice and the staff were all very friendly. The barman in particular was friendly and made us feel very welcome when we arrived for our meal booking, he also gave us good advice on the drinks selection. When we sat down, our table was really sticky and had bits of food on it from a previous customer. This wasn't a major problem, but unfortunately we had to ask twice before it was cleaned. We were a group of five and most of the other meals were pretty good. I went for the beef burger which was quite expensive and sadly didn't meet my expectations of size/quality. I'd ordered some onion rings that didn't arrive with our order and I had to re-request. I'd also ordered the marmite onions, that I was quite excited to try. However they were not included in my burger (I think they had been placed in one of the vegan burgers on our table instead). A staff member said she would sort this out, but didn't come back. A different staff member came at the end of the meal to ask how it all was, and when I explained she offered to get some onions, but at that point I had pretty much finished the meal. It was also a little insulting that I had to open the burger up both times to demonstrate that there were not any onions in there. We booked our meal towards the end of the lunch service and it was pretty quiet, so it was frustrating that we had to keep asking for things. Each of these issues on their own wouldn't have bothered me too much, but all together meant that it wasn't a great experience. I was paying for the whole table of 5, so it was an expensive and disappointing meal from my perspective. On a more positive note, the vegan burgers and other meals went down well with my guests and the onion rings were nice.

Visited today to celebrate a birthday. The location of the pub is very picturesque, as is the interior of the pub itself. The lunch menu had a lot of yummy options, and the food we ordered (beef pie, steak, sausage and mash) were good. Unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive after ordering it. At one point, one of the staff members came to apologize and said our food would be on its way, and then we had to wait another 20 minutes. The flat white coffee we ordered was lukewarm and much too milky (more like a latte). The sticky toffee pudding was very good. It's a shame the service was so slow and the coffee subpar, as the pub is beautiful and the food was very good.
