Was very excited to stay at this hotel, however, we ultimately did not stay and had to stay elsewhere. I reserved an oceanside room and was rather disappointed with the state of it. The balcony had clover mites as well as other bugs, some of which were in the room, the AC did not work leaving the room well above a temperature that we could stay in, bathroom seemed recently renovated but the rest of the room was left in the past. Hotel staff/management were very helpful and accommodating for us.

Supposedly 4 star, hmm? Staff are overworked and although served efficiently, they didn't appear to be happy. Room was basic and clean. We were a family party of ten plus small dog. Although described as dog friendly we were unable to sit indoors with her and had to endure a cold period outside with not even a patio heater. The breakfast had to paid for before being seated and opting for the continental was a mistake. Curled up ham and chorizo, no cheese and a couple of pastries was all that was left. When asked why so little choice I was told, we don't put much out in case it gets left, unbelievable! The Cumberland seems far more interested in catering for Ladies Nights and other money spinning events rather than the casual visitor.

We poked about a bit and feel it's the best option on the strip, certainly in this price range. We plan to stay here again next time we're in Bournemouth. Location is very central, walking range to train station, coffee shops, restaurants, beach. Room was small but pleasant and clean. Noise was acceptable. Staff was friendly and quite helpful. A few idiosyncrasies - the tiniest lift in the Western world (I swear), odd request to charge credit card up front for "incidentals" (???) and then refund later; but no deal breakers and lots of positives as noted above. Book with confidence.
