I rather liked The Crown, as a pub. It's got proper character and it feels like the people who drink here are real regulars who know each other. No real ale, though. :(

Finally made contact, and the woman I spoke to helpfully and quickly cancelled my booking. Thank you. __ I made a booking with The Crown Pub & Guesthouse, however our plans have changed and I need to cancel my booking. Well in advance, I have now emailed several times, as well as tried to contact the location via the form on their website, without any confirmation or response. This feels very, very unnecessary to go through so much hassle to complete a reasonable communication!?

One of my very best friends drinks here all the time. He's made loads of friends here. Community pub, a bit popular with old men. Too loud on a Friday/Saturday night for me, but always rammed. Price point superb. Comparable with wetherspoons. I actually prefer their sister pub, the globe, eight minutes away on morning lane which recently had a refurb and also sells Timothy Taylor landlord for less than £3.30 {I was recently informed that the globe is, in fact, not their sister pub and totally unassociated, but similar vibe} crown probably the best location for rooms in Hackney Central. Family run, local business. Better quality than Travelodge or premier inn nearby. Went in today, second time this week. I've started drinking the Newcastle brown ale there, a very reasonable £3.90/pint and I aman adoptive Geordie having gone to school there from the age of twelve. Sat down with Serena (manager) at the crown on the way home. Was on the brown ale again. With their socialist prices, community spirit and offer of laying on tea/coffee, I see no reason why we couldn't host labour party socials or east London cares, the old people's charity I work with. Serena is lovely. The crown is also popular with older patrons in the daytime. They don't have a kitchen, but I'm only five minutes away so could put food on, whether only warm or cold. I've got some great recipes in mind, doubly enhanced by some I got from a German friend of mine who hosted a dinner party recently, exceptional home baked bread with exquisite dips. Could do chana Chaat, pakoras, samosas, salad too. Will send pics of the place in a sec. But it's more than adequate for our needs...

Went for Wednesday night karaoke and it was rather busy even from about 6pm. Seating was mostly low stools which I found uncomfortable and tricky to get up from. Karaoke set up in front of ladies' loos so can be a bit off-putting having to get past singers to go to the loo and trying to sing with people going in and out of loo behind you. Usual drinks prices for the area. Everything on one level but not really wheelchair friendly due to angle of entrance door (which is solid so people inside wouldn't see if you needed help) and limited room inside. Did not use guesthouse so this review is pub only.
