Waited over an hour for one person’s order in a part of four. Was met with poor service from inexperienced staff when asked about the missing items. Confrontational, and refused to take responsibility for my app order not being received. Unnecessary app ordering in an empty restaurant - which actually didn’t work, as staff informed me that my order’s kitchen ticket did not print. Quite unfortunate for a restaurant. Food was lovely when it came but I only actually re-ordered one of the five items I’d originally ordered, as my party had all eaten their food already. A shame as we were celebrating my friend’s engagement and it somewhat ruined the experience.

Went a couple weeks ago on a last minute whim on a Saturday with a couple friends and had such a great time. The night was more spenny than I expected but I think part of that was because we were all enjoying ourselves so much. The cocktails and food were so good, so we kept ordering more. The soft shell crab and duck & mushroom DimSum were fire. The Burlesque show was a great mix of tasteful, fun and some really impressive singing. When the host starting smashing out the opera vocals it really took it to the next level. Would definitely go again. It's great to have an independent, local, and female-owned place like this in Brixton so I would 100% recommend going if you're up for enjoying yourself and supporting great places! Couple of minor things: Booking online is a faff, but when I called up the place, the host was super helpful and able to squeeze us in on a weekend, which was fantastic and unexpected. My other note was that the cocktails were all great with quite unique flavours - not just your standard sweet drink. Everything is ordered through a QR Code which is super efficient (and makes sense with something shareable like Dim Sum) but having a waiter give us a run-down on cocktails and maybe some recommendations at the start of the night would have been amazing. It was a very busy Saturday night however so I do not know if that is something that usually happens.

The Courtesan is an incredibly special place, and the only way to know that is to go and experience it! The art, the music, the drinks and the food all create a stunning atmosphere, and you can feel the history and philosophy of the place. Their wine is all produced by women, their all-female kitchen makes both beautiful and delicious food, and all of this creates their powerful female-centred ethos. The Courtesan is centred on the power of women today by drawing from legacies of women living during Ancient Imperial China. Courtesan culture, the four great beauties, art, poetry, histories, and legacies are woven into every aspect of the bar, restaurant and burlesque. There is no place like it, you simply have to go and experience it.

A brilliant night out. So much fun. Best Friday night I’ve had in ages. Definitely go. Savage, the talented Parisian hostess, sang her heart out, I loved her Edith Piaf and Moulin Rouge medley. Marcus was an excellent co-host, his Cabarat got a standing ovation. The burlesque dancer was the perfect combination of beauty, grace and naughty cheekiness. Food and service was great (soft shell crab highly recommended), and all very reasonably priced.

It was absolutely fabulous! The venue was lovely and intimate, the food paired with their wines was delicious and the show with the MC and Cocobelle was a total must see. Vegetarian options: The spring rolls with their hot fiery dipping sauce was gorgeous.
