I was recommended Rob Patterson after 2 family members had an excellent experience with him. He is an exceptional physio, truly one in a million. He has helped me get to the route of my intense back pain and fatigue and has provided me with reassurance and hope when I have been at rock bottom. I am now virtually pain free. Rob's clinial knowledge is second to none, and he has an advanced understanding of the connection between physical and mental health. All I can say is, I hope he never retires!

We'd love to offer some constructive criticism but we can't. From our first phone call to the walking out of the door after a 4 hour examination. Everyone at the Cherington practice has been amazing. Best healthcare treatment either of us has ever encountered. What a blessing.

I would like to extend my eternal thanks to Rob and his team for their amazing skills, knowledge and bedside manner. If you have any sort of back related issue these are the guys. Not only will they get to the root of your problem but they will tell you why it happened, how it happened and what you can do about it. They are not interested in signing you up for a long term program, they just want to help you out. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

After experiencing a herniated disc and annular tear in my lower spine due to overtraining and stress, I was still struggling to recover 12-months into the injury and decided I needed to find someone with credentials beyond the average physiotherapist. I was lucky to find Rob at The Cherington Practice. Rob combines an in-depth knowledge of physiotherapy (as well as other related subject matter) and with his natural empathic nature and eagerness to understand sets you up for the best chance of recovery. Rob was quick off the mark to ensure there were not any fractures in my spine in addition to the original diagnosis and explained how the pain cycle could be contributing to the lack of recovery. Taking the time to explain what was going on, recommending resources like podcasts to deepen my understanding and giving me a small number of effective exercises and things to remember during daily life have all played a part in the recovery process It should also not be underestimated how much the physio to client relationship plays in the recovery from pain, and this has been proven on numerous research studies. I am now 80% recovered and able to mountain bike, run 5Ks and play with my children pain free, something I has lost hope of only 4-months ago. Thank you Rob!

If your surgery fails don’t except too much help. I have been suffering from chronic pain for 5 years when I first met with Rob Patterson in November 2018. He diagnosed me with a neurological thoracic outlet syndrome which led in May 2019 to a surgical decompression that included a scalenectomy , 1st rib resection and a pectoralis minor tenotomy. The surgery didn’t help at all, quite the opposite. I couldn’t work for one year, each in breath is now painful and I am just back to where I was before the surgery with additional pain in the chest and throat. If Rob was really compassionate and professional before and early post-op, I was really disappointed by the way he dealt with my case when it became obvious that surgery was not the way forward. In particular, the lack of post-surgery physio therapy support was chocking. Finding that 20 minutes of physio therapy per month proposed by NHS was not enough I asked in June 2019 to see a therapist at the practice and was told that there was no space and put on a waiting list. The practice never got back to me. After being told by the surgeon that physio is the way forward and by French specialists (my country of origin) that this type of surgery requires a physio follow-up 2 times a week for at least a month, I recontacted the practice and book an appointment with one of Rob’s colleagues. I went to see her twice, had a massage which just triggered my pain more. When I ask her what exercises I should do, I was told to ‘go to the gym and get fitter’! Not really what I was expecting from a physio therapist. At that moment, I decided that I don’t want to spend any more money at the Cherrigton practice. If I have no doubt that Rob helped a lot of people, I can only talk about my case. And my experience is that if your surgery fails, you are on your own.

Claire Smith correctly diagnosed my condition within a few minutes of my first consultation, which was later confirmed by MRI scan at the Nuffield Hospital. After several planned weekly appointments with Claire, I am completely pain free and have been able to return to playing golf and other sports. I thoroughly recommend both Calire and the Cherington Practice.
