So how was the Chequers hotel. Firstly on arrival parking requires a deft touch in bays the almost exact dimensions of a modern car. Secondly who ever took the pictures should get a photography award. The hotel looks nothing like it in reality, it looks acceptable in the photos where as in person the whole hotel has had a lick of paint and a trip to B&M to cover a world of horrors. Paint over wallpaper never a good idea everywhere is peeling and cracked, cobwebs everywhere, creaking floors, walls that are paper thin, a shower where you're as likely to get hypothermia as much as 3rd degree burns, a breakfast buffet where you need to bring your helmet for the melee and coffee that I'm not sure has ever been a bean. That can all be forgiven for a cheap and cheerful stay, but the feel of the hotel, is just one of utter dispare. Where lost souls seek a place to stay a night before fleeing to a better place. So I bet your now asking why 2 stars.. the bed was comfy, room warm and when not listening to people run up and down the stairs I got an okay nights sleep. The staff were pleasant and helpful and I don't want this to reflect badly on them. Would I stay again - no Would I recommend to a friend - no, I'd actively discourage it. It's a beautiful part of the world, I should have invested more time in finding a beautiful place to stay. I would recommend you do the same.
