I popped in for a lunch in Merlins Bar at the Celtic Manor on my home from Centre Parks. I was with my wife and two children traffic was bad heading into Cardiff and both my children were hungry so I decided to stop there than McDonalds.......well that was a mistake!!! The Service was very slow and after 10+ mins I went to the bar to order drinks as the App wasn't working. When I approached the bar I was told that it was table service and someone would be along to take our order shortly. I ordered 4 soft drinks which took another 10+ minutes to arrive and when they did we ordered some food and given my youngest daughter was very hungry I specifically told him that as soon as her meal was ready it needed to come out straight away. Over 30 mins later our food started to arrive with my eldest daughters kids margherita pizza which was more cheese than tomato and the cheese had started to congeal.......my Chicken BBQ pizza arrived and there is no way on earth you would have known it was a BBQ pizza unless you had the menu right in front of you and again the cheese had started to congeal. My wife's soup arrived along with her sandwich at which point we reminded the waiter that there was a Children's cheeseburger still to come.....he went to the kitchen to find it and then didn't return at all! We asked another member of staff where the cheese burger was and he went to the kitchen and came back that it was being put under the grill...I asked then if it had been missed off the order or if it had been forgotten only to be told no it hadn't been forgotten and it was being cooked right now. I said to him that if all the other food arrived together and the cheeseburger was being cooked then quite clearly it had been forgotten and not ordered by the waiter. We waited a further 10 mins for this cheeseburger and when it arrived it was really poor and looked hugely unappetising and to be brutally honest It resembled a burger that you get from a kebab shop at 3 in the morning......needless to say my youngest daughter didn't eat much of it. When I went to pay I did complain to the duty manager that mistakes happen and all it takes is for someone to say I'm really sorry but your daughters cheeseburger was missed by the kitchen or I forgot to put it through I would have been happy but for the first waiter not to come back when we queried where the food was and ignore us and the second member of staff to essentially lie was not acceptable. The duty manager did apologise and knock off 25% of the food and 25% off the drinks As my youngest daughter said to me sometimes being somewhere fancy is not worth the time or the effort and we should have gone to Mcdonalds instead as the food would have been quicker and much nicer and the service would probably have been better!! Try harder Celtic Manor as this is the second time I have been with my family and the service has been substandard and not worth the money!

This is a very disgruntled review. We have been coming here and staying in a suite for many years now. I hate to say its getting worse every time. The app that you are forced to use to book or order anything is awful. You now cannot have breakfast in your room unless you pay £48 for a couple. This however is not conveyed to you I'm any way. Our room appears clean until someone's rose petals fell out the bed, the air conditioning doesn't work and nobody answers the phones . On complaining at reception about all of the above I was basically told well that's the way it is these days and I could leave but wouldn't be entitled to a refund. Disgusting. Please stay away from this hotel unless you love to be disappointed 😞

Food & drinks: We used tge Olive Branch restaurant, booked all 4 meals for our stay on line food was OK, self serve, choice reasonable, but despite pre booking Sunday breakfast was poor, a long queue on arriving at pre booked time too many people at the same time, not sure the booked time system was even being used as our details were not checked that morning, pre booking was pointless insufficient staff that morning. On line check out was fine, car park charges were unusual and waived. Probably would not go again and more 3.5 star than 4 or 5
