New owners aren’t always better. We are reasonably regular diners in The Carpenters and always enjoyed our visits. Closed for refurbishment and now reopened. The refurbishment is good and the bars and restaurant look lovely. A welcoming smile on arrival and shown to our table. Unfortunately there was food and napkins on the floor, but the food was soon cleared up. New menu and new drinks! But we had plenty of time to consider what we wanted as nobody seemed to want to take a drinks order. But when they did we found that not all the new spritzers were available as “we’ve been open for a few days and have sold out”. Why offer what you can’t deliver? The food offered seemed a little ‘ordinary’ compared to the previous options - maybe that will improve in time. The food was ok but the service continued to be slow. Hard to get someone to take a drinks order and hard to get the drinks to the table. Will we be back? Probably, but not with as much enthusiasm as previously.

Infrequent visitors to Carpenters Arms but we decided to book but could not get a table at the time we were after due to showing no availability. To our surprise we turned up to find the place half empty. Menu was adequate and basic but the item I had identified on their web site was not shown on the menu. Had to ask what the pie of the day was rather than being advised. It was ok, and hopefully after the refurbishment due soon we will go back and see.
