FAQ

What specific training and certifications do your trainers have in horse care and riding?

Our trainers at The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre have extensive training and certifications in horse care and riding. Our trainers have certifications from the British Horse Society and the Association of British Riding Schools. Additionally, they have undergone training in equine science, horse behaviour, and veterinary care.

Can you provide references or testimonials from previous clients?

Yes, we can provide references and testimonials from previous clients. We have a collection of testimonials on our website, and we can also provide contact information for previous clients who are willing to speak about their experience with us.

How do you assess the needs and abilities of the horse and rider before creating a training program?

Before creating a training program, we assess the needs and abilities of the horse and rider through a combination of observation and evaluation. We observe the horse and rider in various settings, including in the stable, in the arena, and during trail rides. We also conduct an evaluation of the horse's physical condition, including its movement, conformation, and overall health.

What is the average length of time for a horse to complete your training program?

The length of time for a horse to complete our training program varies depending on the individual horse and its needs. Our training programs are tailored to the specific needs of each horse, so the length of the program can range from a few weeks to several months. We work with the horse and rider to ensure that they are progressing at a safe and comfortable pace.

What measures do you have in place for ensuring the safety and well-being of the horses during training sessions?

The safety and well-being of the horses is our top priority during training sessions. We have several measures in place to ensure their safety and comfort, including regular veterinary check-ups, appropriate nutrition and hydration, and proper equipment and facilities. Our trainers are experienced in handling horses of all temperaments and are trained to recognise signs of stress or discomfort in the horse. We also have strict protocols in place for handling emergencies or unexpected situations.

My daughter bought a voucher for a tour of the BTRC as a gift and it was an amazing memorable experience. Lauren was an excellent guide and explained the whole process of racehorse rehabilitation. The work that the centre does is incredibly important and a worthy cause to support for all horse lovers. We met many of the current equine residents and watched some schooling going on. We highly recommend buying a voucher for a tour.

Having completed three weeks of work experience at the BTRC, I recommend them without doubt to any students wanting to gain insight into Thoroughbred welfare, rehabilitation and retraining, as well as to those looking to adopt a horse. All staff are friendly and helpful and have extensive professional knowledge. They go above and beyond to ensure all the horses under their care have the best possible outcome, which is clearly their top priority.

Having supported the fabulous BTRC for twenty years I can only say it is the best. Not only have I had one horse of a lifetime from them but I have had two. They stayed with me in their forever homes and I couldn't ever thank the BTRC enough for the joy they have brought me. The best matchmakers in the business.

This is the most amazing charity. I wanted a second horse to keep my other horse company. I wanted a horse I could hack out, but not a novice ride. I wanted a horse under 12 years old and preferably under 16 hh and I did not want to spend a fortune on a horse that may not suit me or my needs. My friend suggested I contact BTRC which I did and so happy I took her advice. I now have the most wonderful Maggie who has been with me since September 2017. And I would not change her for the world. BTRC had the perfect horse for me and have continued supporting us.

I went to the BTRC over 5 years ago now. I had lost my confidence a bit after a bad fall, but they were very clear that I could ride or not ride the horses they had picked for me. One of the staff rode each horse first so I could see them ridden before I rode them. We rode in the school and then out a wee hack. They chose three horses that might suit, but I didn’t even ride the third horse because Ginger was stunning and I knew he was the one for me. I went back and tried him again the next day and got to potter about on my own with him. He’s been with us over 5 years now. The BTRC have provided loads of help and back up over the years. Especially when he had issues with his teeth, they were an amazing help. I think they do a very thorough check to see what horses suit you, and honestly we just adore Ginger. The whole family loves him. I would highly recommend the BTRC, the other good point is all the horses are vetted, so you know they are up to the job. Absolutely the best place to go if you like Thoroughbreds.
