My daughter has just performed with BBCo in their production of Alice and the Hatter! What an amazing experience this has been for her, from the audition process right up to the two performances. The BBCo team are incredible, I will never know how they managed to put such a fabulous production together in such little time and all whilst making it so much fun for everyone involved. My daughter loved being part of the casting and creation process, having input into the performance is something she would otherwise never have the opportunity to do at aged 10. In fact, she enjoyed the process so much that most days she asked to stay longer and help out instead of coming home! Thank you so much to all involved! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BBCo was a such a memorable experience. The choreography felt like it was personally created on each of us, to showcase each dancers strength and individuality. The live orchestra added to what was already such a special opportunity, which I will cherish dearly.

Doing BBCo was such a fun experience. I enjoyed meeting new people & learning new things as well as performing on the stage. I loved the fact we got to dance with a live orchestra and everyone got to dance together. The help of the choreographers and meeting new likeminded dancers really helped me develop my skills and seeing everything come together during the performance was amazing! I really enjoyed everything 🙂

My daughter had a fabulous time training and performing with the Birmingham Ballet Company. The teachers were fantastic with her and she learnt so much. She especially enjoyed performing with a live Orchestra. The costumes were beautiful and the performance was stunning. I can highly recommend it to anyone who loves to perform and has a passion for dance.

It feels like an age ago now but was only the summer before last. Facing the long holiday stretching before her, my daughter's eye was caught by the sparkly allure of the invitation to audition for Birmingham Ballet Company's inaugural production at the end of the summer. Occasionally slow to be convinced by glossy literature and new ventures and concerned for her not to take on too many commitments (term-time is busy enough!), I'll admit to some ambivalence. We had holidays booked (and boy did we need them), and between emerging summer plans and ballet summer schools, the diary quickly filled up. We felt the matter was decided for us when she couldn't make the Intensives. But both of us kept coming back to the invitation and wondering if and how we could make it work. And I'm so glad we did. All it took was a phone call from Ms Penny to convince me that this was an opportunity not to be missed. It seemed that the promotional literature was a vision of reality to be taken at its word. It sounded so unique, creative and exciting. The creative process was something that was to evolve in collaboration with the dancers, to suit their individuality. I knew the creative element would be right up Isla's street. Moreover, the opportunity to focus on characterisation and performance quality was something that could often be overlooked in the race to get through exams and prepare for auditions. What's more BBCo. was prepared to be flexible to accommodate our awkward availability! So, my daughter became an Associate Member of BBCo and received her (much-coveted) uniform and accessories. She couldn't wait to meet new faces and friends and to get going! The creative process can be slow at times; there must be time for trial and error, ideas to germinate, flourish and evolve, and there were times that she wasn't sure what direction it was all heading in and how her role would fit into the bigger picture. She needn't have worried, as BBCo worked hard to help her integrate into the fabric of the show. She grew increasingly confident and excited about the performance and her role. I could feel the palpable excitement at the photoshoot for the (fantastic) Ambassador shots. The journey was worth every minute. Finally, on a balmy, end-of-summer evening, my picture-perfect programme in hand, I took my seat in the beautiful Ruddock Performing Arts Centre. Little did I know that I was about to be blown away. The following should sum it up: fabulous, flowing (at times fun and frivolous) choreography; clever costumes; apt accompaniment of beautifully performed live orchestral music; amazing acoustics; electric atmosphere; delightful dancing; able acting; poised, picture-perfect photos and tremendous talent. Suddenly it all made sense, as Ms Penny and Miss Kate had always said it would. The whole thing gelled together into a slick and professional, unforgettable production. There were many special touches (even Black tie and bubbly!) that added to the sense of occasion. Throughout the experience, I witnessed the collaboration, teamwork and generosity amongst the BBCo family, which I'm sure filters down from the top. I’m quite certain that the BBCo experience will have enhanced Isla’s dancing in so many ways. She started her new dancing term on the crest of a wave and has gone on from strength to strength. Dancers - when life returns to normal - don’t miss the chance to dance with BBCo!
