I have regular treatments at The beauty room, but today I had my first full body massage with Raluca. She was amazing, checked if it was OK to use certain oils (I told her I'd leave it to her), checked if the pressure was OK for me. I've had massages before & I am a sports massage therapist but this today was exceptional & would highly recommend. (I've re booked) Thanks Raluca, Carys & girls xx

Overall rate 2.5 (rounded up) Today, I have visited The Nibblers for the first time to have my manicure done and I must say I was a bit disappointed :( I do not go to a nail salon very often but I am not inexperienced either. I have quite dry cuticles (and hands), usually I am offered something to soften them a bit, i.e. cuticle softener in a form of gel or anything (even water) to make them easy to work with. Here, the manicurist went straight to the point, she was pushing them with a metal device and then cutting with cuticle cutter. Unfortunately I haven't seen the devices being sanitized. I have been to some good nail salons that have been using autoclave after each usage (there are such machines designed for nail salons as well). How do I know? All the devices were packed in those sealed sanitized pouches and each device was opened in front of the customer. I haven't seen it in here. I believe they are sanitized somehow but I've heard autoclave is the best method to kill all the germs, fungi, viruses etc. Same with nailfiles. I am not sure if the one I have been treated with was brand new (I have seen 3 or 4 nailfiles at the table with some signs of usage). During the process of cutting out cuticles, shaping the nails etc. suddenly the manicurist began to put the base coat. I was quite surprised as there was a bit more to do. I could see some cuticle bits sticking out or the cuticle line could be cut out more or white bits of unfiled nail on sides etc. It wasn't done entirely how I would like my nails to look like. I asked if they had a drill as in some salon they use a drill. The lady said that they do not use the drills as they are damaging the nails, cuticles etc. and if I wanted manicure with a drill I can go elsewhere... I am not an expert in nail saloon etiquette but I do work with customers and that is not what a customer want to hear especially if that is their first visit at the saloon which allegedly is one of the best (or the best) in Barry... Personally, I believe if somebody knows how to use it not damaging anything, there is no harm in it, is there? Well, I said "ok" and kept my mouth shut :) Also what I have noticed there was no fan at the table that would suck in the dust from filing the nails (usually it is build in the place where you put your hand). I had the dust all over my hands that later on was rubbed with hand cream at the end. You may say that I am picky, fussy, had a bad day, I want to make somebody's day miserable etc. etc. nothing of this sort. I've been to a salon that had it all (cuticle softener, brand new nailfiles for each customer, autoclave, build in fan, etc, etc.) and the price for the same service was the same comparing to what I have paid at The Nibblers. Unfortunately, the salon was in Oxfordshire where I lived before I moved to Barry. So you can see why I was disappointed. There were some positive points as well: - I was offered a coffee (but I think nowadays it is a standard to offer coffee/tea in a good salon) - There was a wide range of nice colours especially CND - Except for the drill conversation, everyone seemed to be quite positive and smiling Overall, I was really looking forward to this visit but after I left, I was not so excited anymore.
