Local history, Local Communities and Local Businesses play an essential role in the everyday life of each community, its cultural identity and economy. This charity believes that better places can be built through supporting and endorsing local enterprises. This is why I believe The Architectural Heritage Fund (AHF) is a unique and amazing charity. Since 1976, The Architectural Heritage Fund has been supporting people, communities and organisations to take ownership, repair and adapt historic buildings and places for new sustainable uses inspiring the start up and growth of new community enterprises that utilise historic buildings and places for public benefit. The AHF is often the first point of contact for community groups seeking to rescue historic buildings ‘at risk’ and does this by providing advice, information and financial assistance in the form of early project grants and loans for projects undertaken by charities and not-for-private profit organisations. So, what makes this organisation special is the promotion of conservation and sustainable re-use of historic buildings at risk for the benefit of local communities across the UK.
