FAQ

What are the qualifications and experience of the general practitioners at your practice?

Our general practitioners at The Abbeyview Surgery are all highly qualified and experienced. They are fully registered with the General Medical Council and have extensive experience in general practice. They regularly attend continuing education and professional development courses to ensure that they are up-to-date with the latest developments in healthcare and medicine.

What kind of medical services are offered at your practice?

We offer a wide range of medical services at The Abbeyview Surgery, including general consultations, health assessments, chronic disease management, women's health, men's health, mental health, vaccinations, minor surgery, and much more. Our aim is to provide comprehensive and holistic healthcare to our patients, and we work closely with other healthcare professionals as needed to ensure that our patients receive the best possible care.

What is the process for making appointments and how long is the wait time?

Patients can make appointments with our general practitioners by calling our reception or by visiting our practice in person. We also offer online booking through our website. The wait time for appointments varies depending on the availability of our general practitioners, but we always aim to see patients as soon as possible and offer same-day appointments for urgent cases.

Are there any out-of-pocket expenses for patients or is the practice bulk-billed?

We bulk-bill all of our patients, which means that there are no out-of-pocket expenses for our services. This makes healthcare more accessible and affordable for our patients, and helps to ensure that everyone can receive the care they need.

How does your practice manage referrals to specialists if needed?

If a patient requires a referral to a specialist, our general practitioners will discuss this with the patient and provide them with a referral letter. We work closely with a range of specialists in the local area and can help to arrange appointments and coordinate care as needed. We also receive regular updates from specialists to ensure that we are aware of any changes to our patients' care.

Called on the 9th May as I have a severe and painful ear infection. Was 28th in the que. Had a call back to say there were no appointments and to call back tomorrow. Tried to book online. Next available appointment was 12th June 2023! I then called, as directed to, on the 10th May at 8am. Was 4th in thr que. Got cut off and then was blocked from redialling for about 10 minutes. Finally got through again to be 28th in the que. I got a call back 4 hours later to be told that there are no appointments and to go to hospital. This is not acceptable. I work full time and live 35 minutes from my nearest hospital. I do not have time to sit in a hospital to be told something that my GP, that I live 10 minutes from, could tell me. Not acceptable. Shocking service.

Tried to book online and offered an appointment in the middle of June. Phoned on the dot at 8am and was 4th in the queue then they hung up! Called straight back and number not recognised for several attempts - message saying you have dialled in incorrect number?? Finally got through again and now caller number 28. Great service. Even when I get through I can never see a doctor face to face.

I know in recent times everyone’s view of GP services hasn’t been the greatest - however I only ever have wonderful things to say about this surgery. In my personal experience, the staff are always very friendly and they deal with repeat medications etc in a timely manner. I’d just like to mention also how courteous Mrs Reynolds was to call me to apologise for an error on the booking system, but then also made time to go through my medications with me on the phone and book me another appointment subsequently. Compared to previous GP surgeries I have been a patient under in the past, Abbeyview is definitely still a very good surgery under the pressure of recent times I feel.

Used to be an amazing practice but now even the basics are broken. Unable to make an appointment by phone, regardless of the time of day. Press 8 for a call back and to hold your place, doesn’t work. I’ve been pushed to the walk in centre more times this year than ever before as cannot get to see anyone in practice with my children when poorly and they say to go to a walk in. I cannot speak to anyone to gain a prescription repeat and their online site doesn’t work though registered. Primary care? What primary care. The NHS is broken and those who’d usually seek care at the first point here cannot, so we go on to ‘break’ the acutes and walk in services with an ever increasing demand that cannot be met. Absolutely gutted to write this review, sure it’s the same all over the UK but deeply concerned I or my family cannot access the basic care and treatment we pay our taxes for and need. Melting pot…

Absolutely terrible. Cannot get an appointment for weeks even though trying online and for a pre booked call .then you get prescribed medicine over the phone, follow up the next day at 1030am on phone for 50 mins waiting for it to be answered, to be told pharmacy has not collected script. Ring back at 4pm and pharmacy still has no script from surgery. Broken process. Waste of time / phone calls. What a terrible service. Utter shambles.

Having been privy to a few surgery practices in my life, Abbeyview goes way beyond what I've been used to. The staff are amazingly caring. Given the problems in the NHS we hear about so often (eg. staffing levels and retainment), it is even more surprising that they achieve such a high standard of care. Thank you Abbeyview.
