Dear fellow Travellers, We did stay at the Thatched Cottage Hotel for 2 Nights in May 2023. The booking process is easy and friendly. We were allowed to bring our two terrier dogs and it was all going smoothly. We were looking forward to our stay in the heart of the new forest. When we arrived - the first (outer) impression was also good. It is a cute little thatched house indeed. However, once we entered the place - we noticed that it is a bit run down and more like a place for elderly people.. the style is VERY oldfashioned (to that extent, that it was not cosy anymore for us). We had booked the "superior" room upstairs, "The Earl Grey" room. The way to the room was already a bit spooky - as the lighting in the corridor was hospital-like. Also there was construction work going on in the corridor (wooden patches on the wall) and there was a smell of mould. Entering the room was the next shock - it was not very inviting unfortunately. It is VERY small. Due to the age of the building it is more like a dungeon than like a room. The Bathroom (with shower in the bath tube) you cannot really use. It is with Carpet - and you cannot use the shower, as it is under the roof (no space there!). The main part of the room is not furnished nicely at all. A strange feeling overcame us - we did not feel safe and not cosy at all. There was a VERY old water heater (did not even look nice) and it all appeared a bit dirty to us. As we did travel with my girlfriends older father, who was staying in the more "modern" part of the hotel - we also got the impression of his room. It was very basic and very small. After one night we moved also to the more "modern" part. Our room there was ok. However, there was black mould in the shower. And some tiles under the washing basin were broken. The only real upside about this Hotel is its location and above all the friendliness of the staff!! That I really want to highlight - besides all, the staff is superfriendly and helpful. They saved our stay. But I have little respect for the overall owners of this place. Best regards, Janis

A really fantastic place to stay! Matthew and the team couldn't have been nicer, and even produced an outstanding very early breakfast for some of our group. My room was immaculate, and due to the bar closing times was probably one of the quietest rooms I've ever stayed in. The bathroom was warm and wonderfully clean, and the shower pressure was so immense I felt like I'd had an industrial power clean by the end. I'm just sorry I was there for work and couldn't sample the gins - hopefully next time! Walkability: Great location in the centre of Brockenhurst and the New Forest

I stayed at the hotel as a volunteer with a work exchange program called WorldPackers. The hotel allowed us to stay during the pandemic without kicking us out - but regardless I found it to be small minded and egotistical. In fact - after I post this I can be sure that one of the owners will write back in fury. Oh well - Cheers. First. Be aware that your rooms are NOT professionally cleaned. They are cleaned by people that are sourced from several work exchange platforms (Worldpackers, Workaway etc) and live either on the property or at the owners home. They have no professional cleaning experience. During the pandemic, I was one of those people. I don't see how or why this is continuing in a post COVID-19 world. Second. Josh the cook (or chef if you can call him that) is a bigoted and unimaginative soul. Vegans beware and honestly don't bother. His food is bland and made with disdain. As a fellow vegan, I watched as he constantly belittled my personal food choices - (although I never allowed him to touch or cook my food) and whenever Vegan guests would come to the restaurant - he incessantly berated them behind the scenes in the kitchen and would comment that "he just didn't have the time for "special requests" Most of the food is frozen/heated up and quite frankly should be included in the stay because its not worth paying for. Even the food that IS paid for is frozen and or /heated up. He constantly made bigoted remarks about any and everyone that was different from him and talked about everyone including guests. Josh - stop listening to mind numbing drill music, embrace pepper, stop buying TK MAXX clothes and FIX YOUR ROTTING DONKEY TEETH.

Set in the centre of Brockenhurst in the heart The New Forest the Thatched Cottage Hotel is idilic. Beautiful garden where we enjoyed a Gin on arrival, and a lovely airy room. We were perfectly positioned to enjoy an evening out at the Philly Inn before a full days walking around Homesley And Burley before back to the hotel for a relaxing evening in the garden before dinner. Breakfast was delicious. Staff friendly service excellent.

Went for a gin tasting. Bit strange they were cleaning the floor whilst we were waiting, not rly the sort of thing to be doing... but the chap that served us was very knowledgeable about the Gin . It felt a bit empty as there was only 4 of us in the room. But I'm sure they do get busy . And beleive they do a good afternoon Tea .
