My first purchase from Thakeham was in April 2019. At that time, I purchased a Georgian chest of drawers and a small Pembroke work table. As luck would have it, Tim was manning the shop that day. He could not have been kinder or more helpful as our initial conversation entailed helping me figure out train routes from Central London and surface transportation from the station closest to Petworth which was, if memory serves about a 20-30 minute drive. Once at the shop I received a good welcome and encouragement to browse at my leisure. When I came back to him with questions, I received an hour long tutorial on Georgian period antiques which included what to look for in authenticating a piece - so valuable in these days where fakes and reproductions abound. He talked me through the relative merits of 8-10 chests and I felt very comfortable with my selection which was handsome and serviceable with lovely deep patina. We then moved onto Pembroke work tables of which their selection at that time was unparalleled. In both cases I felt the prices of the pieces were very fair. All told, I was in the shop about two hours. Since the shop was about to close, Tim offered me a ride to the station. All in all, it was one of the best shopping experiences of my life. I purchased for the second time in February - this time a mahogany Georgian Bow Front chest. This time the transaction was conducted solely via email. It was another flawless transaction including shipping from the UK to my doorstep in remote Northern Michigan. Truly, I could not be more pleased. I have worked with many dealers over the years and I can say with complete conviction that Thakeham is several cuts above. They are incredibly knowledgeable, they do their own restoration, and their prices offer tremendous value for money. They are happy to educate. For all these reasons, it makes me irritated to see anything less than a glowing 5 star review. As with most wonderful things, fine antiques take time to find. Thakeham is willing to help you in your quest. For me, they are now trusted advisors and friends. I recommend them without reservation.

If you are visiting Petworth for Antiques, you should make sure Thakeham Furniture is on your list! This family run showroom is so nicely laid out, a real delight to browse through the excellent furniture they have on display. Tim, Belinda and Harriet are very welcoming and helpful, with a keen eye for interior design. Definitely recommended - you won't be disappointed!

I wrote a poor review of Thakeham Furniture,which has been removed ! If you want good service and value for money,do not visit Thakeham Furniture.I had been looking for a small Wellington chest,size being all important. I saw one in Thakeham Furniture for considerably more than others I had seen,I offered £1,500,which was still more than these others. I WAS EJECTED FROM THE SHOP!!!-told I was rude,told I watched too much TV. Extraordinary! How much more pleasant it would have been to discuss my offer,and explain why Thakeham's product merited a considerably higher price than others I had seen.
