Visited with a 4 year old who enjoyed both the mines and the metal detecting. Truly a unique experience with the self guided element enabling you to explore at your own pace while tackling the steps.

We was only there 10 mins. Feet were wet within the first few minutes. Partner has copd so struggled with the steps so made our way back. Lady on the desk wasn't bothered. Obviously not concerned over customers they just want the money.

Perfect for a rainy day! It is damp in the mine so wear a coat and shoes you don't mind getting wet or muddy. It is a self-guided tour with informative signs and buttons to press for audio commentary. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes and then there is a nice walk back down the hill and a gift shop with gemstones. Note: I wouldn't recommend this activity if you have mobility issues/pushchair - the floor of the mine was wet, taller people would need to duck in most areas, there is a staircase of 184 stairs to get outside and the walk back downhill is rocky and slippy in the rain. You can choose to go back through the way you came in to avoid the stairs but you would miss out on half the tour.

Great informative day out, takes about 45 mins on a quiet day and lots of information taken on using the info points and audio commentary. Self guided tour, many many steps half way through which would be hard for the very young or infirm but otherwise very interesting. One downside was no children's helmets and my 8yr old couldn't wear one to go in. Gift shop nice with a little museum off the side. Also has a free play area and an area for metal detecting and gold panning which you can pay for. Beautiful landscape and overall a nice little place to spend an afternoon.

I have to agree that £30 seems a bit steep for the experience. We were able to see the stalagmites etc but reading the boards was tricky with people waiting behind. We brought the dog, the metal stairs (186 of them) were grids of 10cm by 2cm approx so were unnerving for doggo to walk on. At 5,7 I had to duck 25% of the time so not ideal for bad backs. Large on site free carpark. An experience that lasted 40mins, nice enough but wouldn't do twice.

Great experience on a rainy day! Very interesting and educational and the views at the end are incredible. More information before we started would have been appreciated, we were fine with the steps but there was no warning until we reached them! Wrap up warm and wear sturdy footwear! Would recommend a visit if you're in the area and have an hour or so spare.
