Sonny is a good salesman, works hard when he wants to and is a likeable contractor. Unfortunately too many things went wrong and consistently, despite an overall good impression on a flat refurbishment: 1) Returning keys: As a casual check after we paid him I asked if they were left in the flat. No answer. Multiple calls and messages, almost all unanswered and several failed promises later across nearly two weeks and with the elderly lady owner of the flat in tears and on the verge of getting a locksmith to change the locks he eventually returned them. Although this forced us to make an extra round trip to get them to a third party. No apology. And bear in mind Sonny is in clearances so is dealing with people having suffered a recent bereavement, as was our case. 2) Communication was poor except when it suited him - very good at being in touch around payment. But once he has been paid, when we found a mistake of his - throwing away and capping off an entry phone - forget it. He won’t help you fix his error. 3) Spec’ing of a job was poor. Approaches and designs were agreed only for mid job for them to be deemed impossible, or add significantly to the cost. Despite it all being in writing up front. A simple use of a tape measure would have solved the dimension issue and properly getting the costings right on materials would have prevented design changes. Other decisions were not run past us, for example the kitchen area was never agreed to be on a different level to the living space which now makes it impossible to place items along the border between the carpet and kitchen lino. 4) Restoring areas of the refurbished flat to their working state that weren’t part of the immediate spec became a huge issue. For example he chucked out a curtain rail that should have gone back up, getting an inferior replacement was eventually sorted after a four messages and multiple calls (all unanswered). He failed to plumb in a washing machine back in which wasn’t doable as individual since the fitted kitchen was now in the way. And worst of all took off an entry phone system and capped it off. Rather than restored it. Presumably due to no more reasoning than it being in the way for decorating and then not thinking about it. The latter we only discovered after we paid him. Tellingly, that was never resolved. Finally, have we had an electrical certificate for the work? No. Ultimately a straight forward flat refurbishment just felt a bit out of depth for him and his team.

Sonny moved me a little while ago and I couldn’t recommend him highly enough. From start to finish the service was amazing. So friendly and professional and he took excellent care of all of my belongings. He truly made the move run seamlessly and I was so grateful as my move was a particularly stressful one!
