Surma is my favourite Indian take-away in Stevenage. I have been using it on and off for years. The food is very good with very generous portions at an affordable price. The place itself is very small with just enough room to wait for your order but it is pleasant and fine as a take away location. You can order online and collect or have delivered.

This is the only place in the area you should be heading to for your Indian takeaway! Award winning food because it tastes so good. I've eaten most of the menu and everything is great. Recommend Rosuni mushrooms. Vegetarian options: Plenty and delicious

Shame. Collected a takeaway today. It was a lamb dansak and a keeman nan. I returned after twenty minutes. The nan took slightly longer, it was burnt at the edges and as soft as a badly done pancake in the middle. The minced lamb was in one block and not at all cooked. This was a shame since I would gladly have waited to have it cooked properly. Got a free papadom. The dansak was really nice....shame.

Ordered at 1720, its now 1901 and still no sign of our dinner. Having called and being told "it's with the driver out for delivery" but read some recent reviews, I'm not going to hold my breath. Hangry and disappointed.

Wish I had read the other reviews before ordering - would have probably gone elsewhere. Good food and reasonable price (hence 2 stars) let down by incomplete delivery which was also late and food, when it arrived, only being warm. Took two phone-calls to put things right - disappointing as ordering online and delivery is supposed to make things more convenient.

Plenty of recommendations for this take away so tonight we pulled away from a lovely Indian to try this. Well I would love to tell you what it was like but after an hour and a half and chasing it has not turned up. Shop answered the phone the first time we called and told us 100% the food has just left. That was 40 minutes ago and we live an 8 minute drive from the shop. Nobody will answer the phone now so it’s 23:32 and I have no idea if we are getting food or not!! So sorry to the place where we usually go we will 100% be back and I will 100% NEVER use Surma again!

If I could give 0 stars, unfortunately I would. For a restaurant who prides itself on Guinness world record bhajees, celebrity PR stunts and an owner who has an MBE for services to food, you’d expect them to be able to get the basics right. My wife ordered a takeaway delivery to be delivered for a set time, 7:30pm - we had guests arriving for this time. Unfortunately the food arrived at 7pm, half hour early, which usually would be met with satisfaction but when offering a set delivery time, you’d expect those selecting this have done so for a reason and honour that. By the time our friends had arrived, it was stone cold. Despite this, this review was triggered by what was delivered, or in this case, what wasn’t. Unfortunately only half of the delivery was included, and even though we understand mistakes happen, it was the rudeness of the staff member when my wife called up that has prompted this review. Before she could properly explain, she was told to come and collect the missing items herself, when she explained she hasn’t got her car, she was told to eat it as it was and that they would add the items to her next order, should she ever order again. When told this isn’t acceptable, or fair, she was then passed to another member of staff where she had to explain the whole situation again. She was told that the delivery driver was coming back with the rest. Another 25 minutes later and I then called the restaurant myself and explained again the situation, I was told the driver was on her way, when I said that it was now past the point where the dinner had been ruined, I was offered “free things extra” to which I declined, as has the driver already left so surely she would have had to have turned around, collected the free offerings and then driven back, making the process even longer. When I questioned this, he then passed me over to talk to the delivery driver, who hadn’t actually left as he said - but was in fact taking other orders for delivery… very deceitful, they’d pulled the wool over our eyes, or at least tried to - she said she would be another 15 minutes. By this point, we had practically given up. A very disappointing experience.
