While the location is great, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the hotel is decorated beautifully, I do not recommend staying here and am honestly quite shocked they call themselves a 5 star hotel. From the moment I checked in, the staff was rude and unwelcoming. I’ve received kinder treatment at a 2 star hotel. What made it even more awkward was the fact the lobby is incredibly small and when you walk in, you’re pretty much face to face with the staff, so it’s quite obvious when you’re being ignored. There were multiple times where the employees working at the front desk would look at me and not say anything. I didn’t explore the rest of the hotel because I felt so uncomfortable in the lobby that I beelined for the elevator every time. I didn’t even see the bar or restaurant. Even as I was about to leave and waiting in the lobby for a cab, no staff asked me how my stay was or if I needed any help. What really sent me over the edge was the noise. The doors shut so loudly that all the other doors on the hall (and the framed emergency exit instructions) visibly and audibly shake whenever someone closes them. My first night, I legitimately thought someone broke into my room because of how loud it was. You can hear every single sound, especially from above, so light sleepers, this probably isn’t the place for you. It also would’ve been nice to know that the hotel is directly across from a huge construction site that started early every morning. If the staff had been warmer or the least bit kind, I probably would’ve been able to look past the noise issues. Also, it’s not necessarily a complaint, but I find the fact that they rely on What’sApp communication to be strange, inaccessible, and impersonal. Not worth the money and won’t be returning. There are plenty of other hotels within a mile radius that will treat you a lot better and actually care about your experience.

We had a good time at the Sun Street Hotel. We stayed in a suite, which was done to high standard. It’s a little rough around the edges once you scratch beneath the surface - but for the price we paid I’d say the room offered good value. The team had left us a couple of little treats in the room for our arrival as we were celebrating, so that was much appreciated. A coupe of negatives for the bathroom - The water pressure wasn’t great in the shower, and the water actually leaks out of the front and in to the bathroom, but stick a towel there and you can wipe it clean afterwards. The mini bar was free, which was a plus (soft drinks only). The bed was super comfy (although quite small). There are major works going on in the street directly outside our window, which was noisy in the mornings. They worked all over the weekend (even the bank holidays), with giant cranes moving things around just metres from our window. Maybe worth mentioning this before you book. The main downfall of this hotel is the service. Everything felt disjointed, and the majority of staff that we encountered didn’t really know what was going on. It lead us both to question how or who awarded this hotel 5 stars. It certainly isn’t close yet, in my experience. Breakfast each day was laughable in places in terms of service. You’d be asked multiple times if you had allergies and what your room number was (often the same person asking over and over). Some days you get toast and butter/jam, others you don’t. You may be offered other items, but they never arrive. Breakfast was included within our rate, but if I was paying for it I’d have taken issue on the first day and not returned. Also, beef bacon and a beef sausage on the full English? Both very poor in comparison to pork. We had planned to eat dinner there one evening, but given the poor service at breakfast we decided not to take the risk. With so many options available locally, why waste the money on such poor service. I imagine others had a similar experience, as the restaurant was very quiet in the evenings. The same could be said for having a pre dinner drink in their lounge. The service was all over the place. Sometimes you’d get table service, sometimes not. Sometimes they bring you a bill to sign, the next time they forget. The glass of Rioja I had was definitely old as well, I’d say it was opened at least two days previous. It’s a very quiet hotel though, so I can imagine a lot of their wines by the glass have been hanging around for too long. Overall, I feel like they need an experienced manager to come in and take control of these things that could elevate the experience. Without it, they have a great looking hotel that is simply poorly run. I’d show you some photos of how lovely the room was, but their terms and conditions explicitly stated that we weren’t allowed to take photos unless pre-authorised and while accompanied by the executive team, so no can do. Cheers.

Phenomenal service, beyond perfect decorating, comfortable beds, and extremely clean. The standard size room is a little small so if you like space, just book one of the larger options. 5/5!
