Excelsior Entertainments
The area is littered with "Stones" as marked on old maps but this one is the easiest and most visible to find. It is in an area that was once very industrial and is quite close by the former track bed of the Wentworth branch line that served the Wentworth Silkstone Colliery. The Colliery was sunk by Samuel John Cooper reaching coal in December 1857. The Pit closed in 1978. This area is also close by to the Dove Valley Trail that makes up part of the larger Trans Pennine Trail network.
