I've trained with Steve for only a short while and have studied many martial arts. But I can honestly say this is by far the best training I have experienced, it just leaves you wanting more and more each time, it's great for developing speed, power, agility coordination and reaction time. Steve has a wealth of knowledge and will take time to explain thoroughly he is friendly and treats us all as family.

Really enjoy training at Steve’s gym, great friendly atmosphere with a good bunch of students all trying to help each other progress, this atmosphere is created from Steve & the way he helps you patiently get your technique just right, other sensei’s/teachers would not go into half the detail that steve does but with each bit of advice you really notice the difference subtle changes can make! Steve’s knowledge is immense, having been around the world on his martial arts journey learning different styles through the years, & it keeps the classes interesting mixing things up when needed, great fitness workout too. The class prices are very reasonable & the free car park right outside is so convenient.

I've recently gone back training at steve powell's... after a number of years and Steve hasn't changed one bit. Still the same great friendly guy who treats all his students like family... he goes above and beyond to teach, explain and breakdown techniques for his students... his knowledge is immense.... The atmosphere at the gym is great... no ego's as Steve vets new students... and old student keep going back like myself.... I can honestly say I would never want to train anywhere else. If you want to learn martial arts/ self defence... this is the place to go...

I've trained at Steve's gym for many years. I I've also trained at other gyms and can tell you without bias, his knowledge, experience and dedication is second to none. Steve goes above and beyond to help his students and anyone interested in martial arts. His class prices are one of the cheapest around, especially when you take the time to check his pedigree. The membership he charges is less than one third of some other gyms I've been to. In fact, his prices have hardly changed over the past 30 years. He also doesn't use gradings as an excuse to make more money, like most other gyms. His classes are always friendly, relaxed and safe. With 50 years plus of teaching experience, Steve's one of the most respected instructors out there.

From a world qualifying combat sambo. What do i like? Steve Powell and the Manchester jkd gym are, and have been, one of the most pivotal gyms and influential in the UK since the 1980's. I have cut my teeth (since i was 12 years old, now 35 years later) and gained most of what i know here and learned everything i needed to know about self development,street combat, kali, and jeet kune do. The level of teaching skill and ability to convey said skill is why he is one of the best and recognised in the game and for that, cost (although reasonable) is not important, however i would pay anything. I see some absolutely untrue reviews below, look at the timestamp, they were done in succession and look like trolls..
