One of the many status in Leeds city Square of great historical significance. So great in fact that Leeds city council were at one time going to sell them all for scrap! They were only saved due to a dedicated group who made it public and partitioned the council into an extremely embarrassing U-turn! The other statues are of: Dr Hook, not from Peter Pan, but a vicar of Leeds. Joseph Priestley, who had a college named after him before it was destroyed by the "merger of colleges". James Watt, no real connection with Leeds but it's a nice statue. Around the "square" , (it has never been square, ever), are 8 beautiful semi- naked nymphs depicting morn and even. the council once hired a guard to stop young men using the status bottoms to ligh matches on. The Black Prince has no connection to Leeds what so ever but was funded, as were the rest of the statues, by Colonel Thomas Walter Harding who with several to choose from and went with the horse one. They all now have interactive QR codes fixed to them and are worth checking out
