    One morning, having notice some scratches on our new sofa I checked our insurance policy Staingard and it indeed covers for cat scratches. We purchased the insurance when we received the sofa few months back. A gentleman from HomeServe (another notorious 1 star company) came and took some pictures and a video of the scratches caused by our cat on the brand new sofa. The response of Staingard is, of course, in their own favour and they can not refund or repair. See official response below. Our cat indeed scratched the sofa in 1 single night last week but of course this can not be proven, how can we? So "de facto", no claim for cat scratches has been even paid out by Staingard as we haven't found a way to talk with cats and get a clear response yet. In this case, Staingard insurance service in pointless and just not worth the money spent (£150). They are jury and judge at the same time, like they will know if our cat if the damage was done in a single incident or the cat applied in multiple occasions her nails of the leather sofa... This is a kind of policy the sofa company will sell anyone in order to make customers believe there is some sort of reassurance behind leather sofas defects and scratches but it is just a legalised scam in which insurer and sofa company make some extra money out of our pockets! Official response from Staingard (only based on their own assumptions and impossible to prove): We will NOT pay the claim costs arising from - Pet damage which is extensive and/or not a single incident Claims Procedure In order to make a claim you must notify the service provider as soon as possible after the incident, and in any event no later than 7 working days after the occurrence. Any delay in notification may result in permanent damage and will invalidate your claim. We have observed the damage to the furniture and as detailed under what is covered although we cover pet damage under accidental damage we have deemed this claim to be extensive and/or not a single incident. We have fully reviewed the details submitted within your claim and found that the damage is extensive and/or not s single incident has indeed occurred as a result of the above as suggested. The meaning to the definition of extensive is that the damage has affected a large area of the furniture. The definition of not a single incident is of damage that been allowed to happen on more than one occasion. In addition, your policy does state that damage should be reported within 7 working days. The longer the damage is left and following the normal usage of the furniture it will further affect the furniture and in some incidents have a detrimental effect on the item leaving it beyond repair. Therefore, having carefully considered all the information available to us and the terms and conditions of the warranty, I regret that we are unable to accept your claim on this occasion. Whilst I appreciate you may be disappointed with this decision, we trust we have been able to fully explain our position in this matter. Yours sincerely Warranty Department

    Absolutely rubbish.. my son has illness so stained chair 2 months old. Man called said he couldn’t do anything and a new cover would be sent. Now refused claim. Discrimination to illness and also it is covered by accidents ….which it was and couldn’t be helped. Waste of money will be taking further
