Stag and Bow is a pocket of crafting joy in Forest Hill. I have been buying my sewing supplies and gifts from them for years. It is a little community, where the kind and experienced staff take the time to answer any questions, source unique and beautiful material. The team have incredible skills in embroidery, sewing, quilting, sashiko, crochet, knitting and more I am sure. Pia helped me to learn the quilting skills I needed to complete my first "proper" patchwork quilt. Tom has inspired me with his Sashiko, and Sarah has helped me develop my skills including colour and patterns in designs. The sewing machine workshop with Pascale helped me get more confident with my sewing machine with the added bonus of learning about other people's sewing machines. This meant I could use a different machine at a friend's house a few weeks later after seeing how to use it at the workshop. A beautiful shop, fantastic staff and treat yourself afterwards to one of Forest Hills local cafes to feel truly in the creative zone.

Pictures suggest that there is quite good selection of different types of yarn in different colours but there was nothing much to choose from. Only one basket with chunky yarns, that had only around 5 different colours. It was quite a trip for me to get there so it was disappointing not being able to get even one yarn in the colour I needed. The staff seemed not interested at all with my presence, both focused on chatting with the other lady in the store, which made me want to leave instead of engaging them into telling me if maybe they have more stuff coming in soon.

I really wanted to wear this orange jumpsuit to my brothers wedding but one strap was too long and I couldn’t fix it myself. After a few failed Google searches my sister saw a sign in the street for Stag & Bow and even though Pascal the owner was very busy she made time to fix the strap. The jumpsuit fitted perfectly for the wedding, but the BEST part was that she also fixed a button I’d not even mentioned. I am beyond delighted to recommend this shop and excited to have been able to shop with a small business. I’ll be back soon. 🙏 thank you.

If you want to step back in time to a bygone era of real craftsmanship where history meets future craft technique, visit Stag and Bow. Not only are there handmade items to delight the senses, there's a great opportunity for learning when you speak to the staff. I bought some lovely locally made items and I'll definitely be back. Very happy to help our local community of artisans, especially being one myself. It's not cheap though, so make so you're armed with some extra change, it's worth it though 😉 👌
