St. Peter's is a very beautiful, traditional rural Essex church sited atop the steep hill overlooking the Dedham Vale. It's a very well proportioned stone building with quite a short tower. The interior is especially ornate with white walls & sky-blue ceiling decorated with stars. St. Peter's feels very light & spacious with many intricate stained glass windows. The churchyard contains a tiny stone, Victorian era crypt, as well as some interesting old tombs & gravestones. Surrounded by arable fields on the far outskirts of Colchester, the churchyard is very secluded & tranquil.

Samuel Warner Birth 1560 Boxted, Colchester Borough, Essex, England Death 1642 (aged 81–82) Boxted, Colchester Borough, Essex, England Burial Saint Peters Churchyard Boxted, Colchester Borough, Essex, England His son William Warner, born 10 Mar 1586, sailed from Essex, England in the ship "INCREASE", and arrived in Ipswich, Mass in 1636.

Built at the the beginning of the C11th this Grade I listed building consists of a Norman tower with nave, chancel and north and south aisles. The construction is of stone, brick and pudding-stone, with some Roman brick. The tower houses 2 bells the earlier of which was cast in 1714 in Sudbury. There is a Georgian gallery at the west end of the nave, on which is situated the single-manual organ by Henry James (1875), The nave and aisle floors were completely renewed and a modern heating system installed in 2005. The chancel ceiling is splendid with star motives on a blue background. The church is normally open to visitors.
