Without question, making the decision to birth our second baby at St Mary's was quite certainly the right one. Following a long and difficult first labour at QMC 2 years ago, we wanted to opt for something different. Staff at St Mary's welcomed us with open arms when we went to visit initially at 36 weeks. They were well informed, supportive and so passionate about the high level care they provide for women. Naomi, who looked after us at that visit, was incredibly lovely, warm and welcoming. Fast forward 4 weeks and 4 days later, we arrived at the birth centre to birth our second baby. Upon arrival, we were met by Kelly and Vicky who had already filled the birthing pool up following our phonecall to the centre 45 minutes earlier. As I arrived fully dilated, they supported my decision to get straight into the water; we were given space in the room where the birthing pool was, whilst both midwives were in the next room and came back in every 15 mins or so to monitor baby and when we asked for assistance. Their expertise was second to none. Throughout the second stage of labour, they offered so many suggestions of different positions to try and make me as comfortable as possible. Both Kelly and Vicky were incredibly professional, yet personable and we felt so well supported at all times. Alongside this support, a short time before our baby was born, Nicole, another midwife arrived armed with Clary Sage for me to inhale when I wasn't experiencing a contraction. This was something that was greatly received and within moments after inhaling this, things progressed and within a few moments, following only a 5 hour labour, our baby was born. It is incredible to think at that point, 3(!) highly experienced midwives were supporting me throughout my birth and I trusted them implicitly. The aftercare we received at the centre was also superb - from being stitched up, to being helped to wash, the tea and toast. We left the centre in awe of these amazing women and so incredibly grateful for their skill and expertise. We were saddened to hear that this facility is potentially in the future going to be closed; this can not happen. More women need to know about this wonderful resource and I would encourage any pregnant lady to visit and experience the high level of care we did. Naomi, Kelly, Vicky and Nicole and all staff at St Mary's Birth Centre - a truly huge thank you. We will continue to share our experience with others and promote this amazing facility, in the hope that it remains here for many, many years to come.

The best decision that I made after having my baby, was to come and spend 3 nights at St Mary's Birth Centre. Such an amazing but underused resource. All the midwives are lovely and couldn't do enough for you. They support you with breastfeeding or anything else that you need help with, even if it's just to rest for a few days after the ordeal of childbirth. Don't listen to any rumours that St Mary's is closing, it's still very much open and more people need to utilise this amazing place! The best way of describing my experience of staying here, is that it was like being in a safe cocoon for 3 days, where I felt safe and supported in my transition of being a new mum.

I had a great care at this hospital after I had a birth. All of midwives were very professional, amazing, caring and kind. They came to check on me and baby regularly, always asked me how I feel. I was very tired from suffering a difficult birth but they helped me and baby a lot and made me feel so much better. I really appreciate it, can't thank them enough. What a amazing team.
