FAQ

What is your denomination's stance on baptism and how is it conducted?

At St Mary the Virgin, Lydden, we believe in baptism by water and the Holy Spirit, as a symbol of cleansing from sin and entry into the Christian community. Baptisms are usually conducted during Sunday services and involve the pouring or immersion of water over the head of the person being baptized.

How often does your church offer communion and what is the process?

We offer communion, also known as the Eucharist or Lord's Supper, every Sunday during our services. The process involves the distribution of bread and wine to the congregation, which we believe represents the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

What types of community outreach programs does your church participate in?

We are committed to serving our local community and participate in various outreach programs, such as providing a food bank, supporting local schools, and hosting events for families and seniors. We also have a pastoral care team that visits hospitals and care homes to offer support.

Are there any specific dress codes or expectations for attending services?

We welcome everyone to attend our services, regardless of what they are wearing. While there are no specific dress codes or expectations, we do ask that people dress modestly and respectfully.

How does your church handle pastoral counseling and support for members?

We have a team of pastoral care volunteers who offer confidential counseling and support to members of our congregation. We also have links with professional counselors and therapists who we can refer people to if necessary. We believe in providing a safe and supportive environment for people to talk about their struggles and receive guidance and prayer.

I used to visit this Church many years back as we have relatives buried here and are in the Doomsday Book. Spain is the surname. There are cows and sheep in a nearby farm such a beautiful setting. My Mum and Auntie brought a painting that my father painted..from my Nans house to here..as my Dad passed away so my Nan. The painting can now rest well. X
