Took my son (12) to bell ringing school on Saturday morning. Everyone welcoming and really good with him. Civilised stop for tea/coffee and biscuit half way through. 09.00 -12.00 by arrangement with the tower captain/school lead.

This church is simply stunning! There is something so special about St Mary's and that is not just because I was a choirboy here in the 70's or the fact I went to the school next door, was married here, and our children dunked in the font. This is the heart of Southend and should now be our Cathedral as we have City status. The history of St Mary's is fascinating, and it is the jewel of Southend-on-Sea. Even if you are not religious or of this denomination, I highly recommend a visit when the Church is quiet.

What a beautiful place to spend some time so rich in wild life and peaceful. If you drive there is loads of parking space available also you will be very central to lots of shops for all your needs. If you have somebody in a wheelchair there are parts where you may need a stronger person to help ie some downhill walks but you will have a great day. Highly recommended trip.
