FAQ
What is the history and background of your Russian Orthodox Church?
We are actually a Ukrainian Orthodox Church, not Russian. Our church was founded in Bradford in the 1950s by Ukrainian immigrants who wanted to continue practicing their faith in their new home. Since then, we have grown and established ourselves as a community in the area. What is your process for baptism or marriage services?
For baptism services, we require the child (or adult) to have at least one godparent who is a member of the Orthodox Church and in good standing. The godparent(s) must also be present at the baptism. For marriage services, at least one member of the couple must be a member of the Orthodox Church and in good standing. The couple must also complete pre-marital counseling with our priest. What sacraments does the church offer and how does it administer them?
We offer the sacraments of baptism, chrismation (confirmation), confession, communion, marriage, and anointing of the sick. Our priest administers these sacraments according to the traditional Orthodox liturgy and practices. What services do you offer for members and non-members?
We offer regular Sunday services, as well as special services for holy days and feast days throughout the year. We also offer religious education classes for children and adults, as well as social events for our community. Non-members are welcome to attend our services and events. How do you incorporate traditions and customs into worship services?
We follow the traditional Orthodox liturgy and practices, which include a combination of scripture readings, prayers, hymns, and rituals. We also incorporate Ukrainian customs and traditions into our services, such as the use of embroidered cloths on the altar and the singing of Ukrainian hymns. Our priest often explains the significance of these customs and traditions during the service.Reviews
