FAQ

What is your denomination within Orthodox Christianity?

We are an Episcopal Church within the Anglican Communion, which is a branch of Orthodox Christianity.

What kind of services do you offer and how often do you hold them?

We offer a variety of services throughout the week, including Sunday worship services, weekday morning prayer, and evening prayer. Our Sunday service schedule includes a traditional Holy Communion service and a contemporary Family Eucharist service. We also hold special services for holidays and other occasions.

What is your stance on controversial issues such as same-sex marriage or women's ordination?

As an Episcopal Church, we believe in the full inclusion of all people in the life and ministry of the church, regardless of their gender or sexual orientation. We support the ordination of women and have taken steps toward the blessing of same-sex unions. This is a topic that is still being discussed and debated within our denomination, but we are committed to being an open and welcoming community for all.

How do you incorporate traditions and customs into worship services?

We incorporate a variety of traditional and contemporary elements into our worship services, including hymns, prayers, and readings from the Bible. We also use liturgical elements such as the Book of Common Prayer and the sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion. We value the richness of our Anglican heritage and seek to honor it while also being open to new expressions of worship.

What is the process for becoming a member of your Episcopal Church?

Becoming a member of our church involves attending worship services, participating in our various ministries and programs, and meeting with one of our clergy to discuss your interest in membership. We also offer classes for those who are interested in learning more about the Episcopal Church and the Christian faith. Membership is open to all who seek to follow Jesus Christ and participate in the life of our community.

Lovely afternoon teas served on Sunday 3-5pm. When we visited there was a live Saxophonist who played Mums favourite Frank Sinatra songs for her. Close to Elizabeth Court carehome so a nice outing for Mum. All the helpers were very friendly.

This is Caterham's original church, 11th century, which was abandoned in the mid 19th century as too small. A replacement was built across the road, but fortunately the old building didn't go to ruin and was restored in the Sixties. It is occasionally open, details in the porch. The exterior stonework is very interesting.
