This hillside cemetery is located south of the Old Charlton Road, on the higher slopes east of the St. Mary's Cemetery and Dover Jewish Cemetery. There are many war graves including a special Dunkirk plot. Many victims are from foreign countries returned to Dover. Some war victims are buried next to their ancestors. Most victims were less than 30 years old. The slopes are well-kept with many fine trees and a visit can be combined with walks to higher hills around - with views of the Castle and France and buzzards and a feeling of being far from built-up areas. It has a small car park just inside the entrance - but at this moment there is not a single notice. The Commonwealth Graves gardner present confirmed this was the St James's cemetery.
