This former Anglican Church built in the latter part of the 19th Century by a High Church priest from Ireland was originally in the Diocese of Winchester up until the late 1903s when it was deconsecrated. It was used during the Second World War as a Royal Naval Storehouse. After laying unused for several years it was taken over by a group of nonconforming Anglicans who did not recognise the authority of Canterbury. This group renovated the building and it became again a place of worship. When the establishment of the Ordinariates occurred early in the 21st Century the congregation opted to become part of the Church of Rome and thus St Agatha's became a Roman Catholic Church but NOT affiliated to the Diocese of Portsmouth.
