When my son and his girlfriend decided they would buy and build a campervan, we quickly realised that the best form of insulation for a van with a metal (non-breathable) skin would be spray foam. I searched up and down the country for a company to do the work but most of them either did big projects or else were 'front companies' that sub-contracted to those who actually did the work. We finally found Spray Insulations (in Chelmsford) and after many a patient conversation with Keely (the co-owner) we settled on a price and a product thickness that would keep the van warm and cosy in the winter, plus cool and comfortable in the summer. Fast forward two months and the big day arrived. Keely, Leo her husband and a trainee showed up with a huge van containing pumps, generators, tanks of liquid foam, gauges and dials. Leo meticulously added extra tape to cover exposed surfaces to make sure no foam went astray. The hose went into the closed van, Leo was inside wearing a hazmat suit and several hours later the job was done. The foam was already rock hard and looked brilliant as you can see in the photos. The team then spent another hour or so cutting away excess foam, bagging up the debris and loading it onto their van. Although there is much misinformation on campervan blogs about how to insulate a van, there is nothing that beats spray foam for dealing with the problem of condensation in vans especially when it's impossible to put rigid insulation into curved spaces and tiny holes. We are thrilled with the result and can recommend this family outfit 100%!
