The staff are mainly friendly and helpful but one particular member of the ophthalmic team, was rude. She made me feel uncomfortable and an inconvenience because I'm in a wheelchair and can't transfer into the chair used for eye testing. There was a huff when me and my chair couldn't fit into a particular room and reluctantly told I'd have to wait for a different room to become available. Eventually I was shown to that room but again, a strong feeling of awkwardness as I had to slowly and carefully make my way down a slender passageway where other customers were sat in a row. When I did manage to get just about into the room, it was very tight. Trying to turn around to face the viewing area, the back of my chair caught a piece of work station to the utter disgust of the optician and a comment of "oh, you've broken it " really didn't help put me at any sort of ease. Fortunately, the front line staff were much more accommodating. To top my visit off, I was given a bill of £136 to pay for my 'free prescription' glasses because I have to have varifocal, thinned non-standard lenses. I asked if my current glasses could be tightened slightly as they slip down my nose. It was a very small job that wouldnt have taken long or cost anything to do.This apparently wasn't allowed because they hadn't been purchased from specsavers.
