My views on Southport are quite mixed. It has a fairly decent range of facilities, with plenty of shops nearby. However, it needs a bit of investment. Some of the track just outside the station is on wooden sleepers still and it looks rather outdated. Then, its main entrance (from Chapel Street) might be quite interesting, but it needs updating, with a plethora of leaks in the ceiling. The trains that serve Southport are plentiful. A regular service both to Manchester and to Liverpool is provided. It would be good to see more routes at Southport, though, that go to places a bit further afield, although a proposal to reopen the Burscough Curves should provide this opportunity.
