I started piano lessons with Phillip three years ago at the age of 56. I'm now 59 and, thanks to the wonderfully skilful, fun and supportive guidance that Phillip has given me, I have just passed my ABRSM Grade 5 Piano Performance with Distinction. I'm now looking forward to my Grade 5 Theory and further performance grades in the coming years and know that Phillip will be with me every step of the way.

It's been about a year since I started piano lessons at Phillip Sangwine Music. I am making good progress through the ABRSM grades and I very much enjoy every lesson. I got a distinction in the July practical exam and I am confident about the next one in December.  Phillip is very serious about developing well rounded musicianship skills. At the same time he makes the lessons interesting and enjoyable. Phillip, Renata and Edward are always welcoming and it is very nice to see them and talk to them. Probably an understatement, I very strongly recommend it!

On my First organ lesson we agreed that Phillip would let me know if we were wasting our time he is honest with his pupils about their progress. I achieved a Merit in grade 8 organ performance and am now playing the organ for a church most Sundays. The feedback from the congregation on my playing ability is reasonably positive, this includes feedback from a highly qualified recently retired organist. We are currently working on revising legato playing (ensuring there are no gaps between the notes) and hymn playing. Ensuring that the music fits the words is more difficult than it sounds and the training for this is excellent. Philip has always provided good advice about how to use my practice time as efficiently as possible. He is able to adjust what I am learning according to the progress I am making. Learning the organ with Phillip has been a positive experience. There is a waiting area to sit if I arrive early and both the organ and piano sound very good when played well. Philip and Renete do a good job of looking after me, they have offered me refreshments and have even dried some clothes for me when I got caught out in the rain.

This welcoming family business gets top marks from me!! I have no previous music education, and had wanted to learn to play the piano for some time. I was not sure how I would get on when I started my piano lessons 3 years ago. However, in that time, thanks to Phillip's structured teaching approach and enthusiastically supportive and encouraging style (and not forgetting his what seems like endless patience!), not only have I learnt to read music and increased my knowledge around music, but am now learning Grade 3 pieces! I am eager to keep going as far as I am able. I love playing the piano. Thank you Phillip. Joan

Phillip has brought me on to a much better standard on piano since I signed up around 2 years ago. Very accommodating when it comes to changing lesson days and times. Excellent studio with 1st class instruments. Would thoroughly recommend if you want to improve with or without grade board exams.

Phillip has taught my son George for over a year. As a beginner it was daunting for him but he is close to taking his grade 1. Phillip is enthusiastic and passionate, clearly music runs in their family blood. Both Phillip and Renata and their son have welcomed George and myself from the very first day. Thank you!
