John is a really excellent teacher and I would heartily recommend him for both complete novices and those who have some skills already. I started the bass as a total beginner and have a real sense of achievement that I can now play some proper basslines! John has chosen some great songs to focus on, has provided helpful demo videos and links and his studio set up is great. Lessons on Zoom during lockdown worked well but in-person lessons since have helped me improve much more quickly and I’m really pleased with my progress!

I started having lessons with John after a 17 year break from guitar and it has been a really great experience. He makes learning musical theory really easy and exciting and at the same time manages to structure the lessons around my musical tastes. Can't recommend enough!

I started lessons with John later in my life as a complete beginner. He has really helped me to progress over the last 3 years. His approach is very student centred which suits my circumstances.

Finding John has been hugely beneficial to developing my guitar playing and I can’t recommend him highly enough. He means it when he talks about individually tailored tuition - there have been many things that, left to myself, I would have assumed were utterly beyond me & never would have considered tackling but, thanks to his encouragement, on many occasions I’ve surprised myself and my wife initially flat-out refused to believe that when she could hear Blackbird coming from my office it was actually me playing! John is way more patient that I could ever be with my stumbling attempts to copy him when we try something new, but he’s also careful to show me exercises which help develop those skills, and so each week I leave with a practice plan. Each lesson builds on the previous one, so the techniques I’ve learned are consolidated and though it’s sometimes challenging, it’s never intimidating; learning with John has been a real pleasure and I look forward to our time in his cosy little studio. At the end of every session he reminds me to shoot a phone video for reference of him demonstrating what we’ve covered, so I now have a library of video lessons to which I can refer back as needed. John is friendly, kind, patient & encouraging and I, as a 57 year old late starter, have gone from very basic to pretty competent in a shorter time than I would have believed possible, and I imagine that younger students would progress even more rapidly. I plan to continue learning guitar with John’s help & would encourage anyone else with an interest in guitar, bass or uke to seek him out; all his reviews have been five stars and there’s a good reason for that - he’s a rare find indeed.

John is a brilliant guitar teacher. He got me playing again after nearly 20 years without picking up a guitar, and sparked my enthusiasm and love for it by understanding what I needed/wanted, and teaching to that. He challenged/pushed me at the right speed, and also expanded my interest in a range of different styles of playing and of music. Big recommendation for others looking for a guitar teacher in London.

I've been learning the guitar with John for a few years. I came from a classical piano background and John has helped navigate my learning from reading music to learning to play by ear and accompanying myself singing which I never thought I'd be able to do. He's given me the confidence and belief in myself that I do have some ability which has transcended my guitar lessons into every day life. I am so grateful for that. John is kind, calm and extremely patient and I love my lessons with him. Highly recommended.
