    I can't believe this is the same appalling service we receive internationally. You'd thing you'd want to pride yourself and show the rest of the world we not a rubbish country. I am absolutely saddened to have to admit that this is the service South Africans give. I have been trying for days to get through on the phone with no luck but I suppose coming from SA I should have known better. Absolutely disgusting

    Terrible calling system. Need to report a lost passport and need assistance but I can’t even get through to you!! Lines are open only from 15:00-17:00 and I’ve been trying since then to get through, rings approx ten times and cuts the call automatically. It appears there is no difference between the home affairs in the U.K. and the home affairs in South Africa. Brilliant service guys👌👍🌟

    Should be a zero star. There's no one to talk to for advice!! I lost my letter to say I could retain my SA citizenship when I applied for dual nationality a few years ago. How to get a copy? I need to renew my SA Passport! I can't go home to visit my mum. So sad , I feel so helpless. Want to risk flying on my British passport, but to scared of being turned away at SA. Is it true that if I acquired British citizenship through marriage, then I would not have needed a letter of retention anyway? Someone??

    If using the VFS website to apply for a visa appointment, use the Microsoft Edge browser. The payment gateway is optimised for Microsoft not Google Chrome, after many 2 hour and 5 hour lock outs, I figured this out :(

    The appointment system is better than the queue but we were only seen an hour after our appointment. You need to take 3 copies of everything (with originals) because they won’t make copies, but you don’t need to certify anything in advance if you have the originals with you. Set aside at least 3 hours total from your appointment time.
