Barney was recommended to us and we were so pleased to have found him. Straight away we knew we were going to get an extremely competent and professional surveyor. Barney definitely went above and beyond with us as we ran into a few issues, his skill and counsel ultimately helped us find the boat we were looking for. We would thoroughly recommend Barney to anyone looking for a skilled and knowledgeable surveyor.

I would recommend Barney without hesitation. He delivered a prompt thorough and helpful report. It was particularly useful that afterwards he was willing to help with many rounds of advice and recommendations which really helped this first time buyer!

Barney did a very thorough and reassuring purchase inspection survey on a Maxum 2400SCR. Apart from the written report, he spent a great deal of time showing me his findings. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend Barney. On survey day he spent approx six hours on the boat during which I joined him over lunch. He took me through all his findings to that point and we discussed each together with the overall condition of the boat so that I could form an accurate opinion. His depth of knowledge was clearly evident. Barney sent through his final report three days later. He spent considerable time taking me through each recommendation so that I had a clear idea of remedial work to be done, it’s urgency and approximate cost. As a first time buyer I commissioned the survey because that’s what you do. Having had the survey I was able to negotiate a slightly better deal, but almost more importantly, I now have a boat I know, can trust and sail without concern.

When I purchased my current yacht in Chichester last year, the pre-purchase survey by a local surveyor revealed a number of issues with the boat, some of which required attention for insurance purposes. As the original surveyor was not Isle of Wight based, I asked Barnaby Sollars of McGRUER & Co Ltd to conduct a follow up survey with a view to having written confirmation that all necessary work had been completed. I also wanted the yacht to be valued for insurance purposes. Barney was extremely flexible and obliging with regards to the date and time of his survey, particularly as I had to change the appointment twice. He was also very diligent as far as the survey was concerned and took time to make sure everything was inspected thoroughly. He also offered practical advice on issues which he thought were relevant to the boat. This thoroughness was followed through in his report, which was clear and unambiguous, and satisfied my insurance company in all respects. I also thought Barney's valuation of the boat was very fair and realistic. Overall, I was very pleased with the service Barney provided.
