Brilliant place for a whole day out - especially if it is a day off or a day that is heavy with rain clouds! There are books from all the British Isles, together with other cultures and countries, maps, post office directories etc., that is just right for interested individuals who have a few hours to get around. There are a few coffee shops around the area that are available for breakfast, lunch or a lunch quick cup of tea or coffee, and a snack. There is also the Barbican building for a good selection of entertainment options which are available. Also the Barbican underground station is not so far away from the site. The buses are pretty good too. Miss JJ Burton of Eltham, SE9.

Tucked away near Barbican tube. Three floors of library and other genealogy sources. Free access (if member) to many online sources. Great place to visit and get some new research leads and ideas. Very helpful staff & volunteers, small common room for snacks. Recommened.

Can be a little expensive to join, or study there for the day, but if you're new to genealogy, the library contains a wealth of information, and the staff are extremely helpful. They seem to be making a lot of efforts to put material on line, and digitise their holdings. Make sure that you check their catalogue before you go, so you know exactly the resource you are looking for before you go, and can make the most of your time there.
