The problematic issue in the region comes from rising interest rates have meant that these nations cannot keep up with the repayments set this defaulting into further debt. The funding squeeze aggravate pre-existing trends to present a scenario that originates with the loan disbursement from China. China is not investing in Africa as much as they used to. Defaults comes from countries with high fertility rates that have borrowed money from China on a high level. The structural financial factors are changing as higher interest builds up to make debts increase and righting financial conditions are likely to persist on a long term basis. Debt vulnerabilities continue to increase liquidity problems may over raises more questions. In accordance to SSA, GDP growth will ease further to 3.6 percent in 2023. SSA GDP expected to rebound by 4.2 percent in 2024. Assumes global recovery, lower energy prices and lower inflation (hence lower rates to pay back).     This is an honest review of the current situation of law students at SOAS, which I feel as though A level students who are making their university choices need to be aware of. There is undeniably a huge level of friction and miscommunication between law students and SOAS staff. If you ever email admin or student support, expect no response or a really late response. Staff delete students comments on forums and reprimand students for expressing their respectful views about how they feel on certain situations. Although SOAS claims to moderate coursework and examinations, there are significant inconsistencies in the level of marking and feedback provided by academic staff which seriously needs to be investigated because it has detrimental impacts on students overall performance in their degree and affects their whole future. How can they expect students to perform well or improve if the feedback is inadequate and non-existent? Keep in mind students pay £9250 per year for their guidance and advice. Most importantly, this year the examination format for law students at SOAS has changed considerably in comparison to other law departments in other universities. SOAS expect second year law students to sit three hour timed examinations, where there are two or three questions per module and the word count is 1200 words for each question. Whereas other universities notably Warwick, UCL, QMUL etc have considerably longer exam times than SOAS students, which puts us at an unfair and unjust disadvantage. Furthermore, there are other departments within SOAS which have 24 hour and 48 hour examinations. SOAS displays a huge lack of respect and professionalism as students were notified of this change at the end of March and one month before students have to sit these examinations. Also, throughout the year students were told to email and petition to different members of staff and were told at the last moment who actually has power over the exam format. As a result, students now feel stressed, disrespected and defeated as their emotions and interests were played with. SOAS needs to learn to respect their students and notify them of important information and changes well in advance. Please do not disadvantage yourself by coming to such an institution.

    I used to attend sylheti classes held by a Marie Thaut who is member of staff at SOAS and uses SOAS’s emails and funding to run these classes. During the lesson she spouted Antisemitic and Islamaphobic comments which I complained to her about that it is wrong to be a teacher and say these things but she said “she does these lessons in her free time so it doesnt matter”. I complained to the uni as she has children and people of many faiths in these lessons so they could be subjected to these comments. However, I did not get any response from the university nor from the language department
