Over the years we dealt with a dozen solicitors and experience with SmartLegal was better than in all other cases. It was easy to reach Dena over the phone or by email. Really good experience. I dealt with Lakshmi. She was professional and helpful. I’d get weekly emails updating me on what was happening (although sometimes this was hard to decipher as a first time buyer) but still appreciated. They were always happy to arrange a phone call. The online portal has a good indication of what stage of the process you purchase is on and what the following steps are. They were always quick to respond to emails too. Still waiting on my land registry - although I know this takes over a year - I would like to have like a monthly or quarterly email letting me know that they are still on it. Even with this, given the price and that there is no hourly fee, they are 11/10 worth it. Would definitely use them again and recommend to any loved ones.

I paid around 3x the fee originally quoted due to additional fees that got added on due to the nature of the case (buying from a company rather than private individual and investigation of superior leases, which added a couple thousand to standard fees - total of ~£5k for a one bed flat in Stratford seemed a lot). Almost makes me never want to buy leasehold again. Dena was very patient throughout the process and communicative via phone calls especially due to lack of competency/response on the seller's solicitor side. It took around 6 months from offer to completion, seller threatened to pull out and rent it out again via email but didn't in the end - I'm happy to be a 1st time property owner at last but a bit downbeat about the additional costs that came up.

Smart Legal’s team helped us with conveyancing when we were buying our house last summer. We were first time buyers and we are pleased to say that the conveyancers tried their best to answer to most of our questions. Dena was assigned to our case. Although sometimes she could make some inaccuracies in her work or couldn't answer to our emails promptly we definitely can tell that she was very keen to do her best and she was very friendly.
