Was charged 11 pound for a pint of San Miguel and a pint of carling shandy. Was so shocked at the time also embarrassed to question it i paid it but im still in disbelief I was charged that. Cant be right especially from a small backstreet quiet pub. Surely not. Wrong. Will lose custom with them prices. Unless they just seen me coming.

Let's get this out of the way first - the fact this place has survived is brilliant. Most of the pubs in town have gone and many of those that have survived are a pale imitation of their former selves... Ah... This was once a coppers pub, let's not forget that. A blokes pub. But it was a pub which used to fill with a rich mix of folk of an evening. It did food during the day (I'd sometimes have my dinner there) and had a tiny beer yard, sorry, garden. Now, the pub looks pretty much the same inside and out - the beer yard is bigger than I remember and they have some kind of burger van doing the food now but the biggest change is the TVs. Many of them. And the size of 'em. It's now pretty much a sports bar. But aren't a lot of pubs, you'd say? Yes. And are they the worse for it, I'd ask? Yes. If this is what it needed to do to survive so be it. But when we visited on a Saturday evening (about 6 ish) it was full, and full of 'blokes' and drinking hard. "No you can't sit there, someone's sitting there" meaning we're watching the sport and you'd be in the way. There were maybe 3 women in the pub, 4 when our group entered. It was a testosterone filled, Peaky Blinder fancy dress, simian walking piss up. Ideal for a lot of people. I'm glad it survived. But not for me.
